Mountain Buggy Nano Travel Stroller Review

I’m giving my honest review of the Mountain Buggy Nano. What is the Nano? Why did we purchase it? Was it worth the price tag?

Hi there, and welcome to the first installment of Jaycee Reviews Kid Stuff. If you’ve been looking for a travel stroller, I’m here to give you my opinion on the Mountain Buggy Nano.

AN OVERVIEW OF THE NANO

First things first, what is the Mountain Buggy Nano and how it is different from a regular umbrella stroller?

The Mountain Buggy Nano is a travel stroller that folds up small enough to carry-on and fit into the overhead compartment of most major commercial airlines. Some features include:

  • Under seat storage
  • Front wheel options of fixed position or swivel
  • Deep seat recline
  • Adjustable leg rest
  • Five-point harness
  • Sunhood
  • Bar-style steering handle
  • Travel cover
  • Carrying handle and strap (for use when folded)
  • Infant car seat compatibility (no add-ons required)
  • Easy two-step fold (not one handed) to carry-on compliant dimensions
  • Additional accessories include:
    • All-weather covers (rain and bug net)
    • Grab bar and food tray
    • Cocoon bassinet seat

PROS

  • Compact Folded Size – when folded, the dimensions of this stroller measure 12″ x 22″ x 20″ and has a carrying capacity of up to 45 lbs.
  • Maneuverability – this stroller can be easily steered with one hand, which I thoroughly enjoy. The wheels are responsive and the stroller is well balanced, making ‘popping it onto the curb’ very easy.
  • Infant Car Seat Friendly – I had never seen a compact or travel stroller that’s compatible with infant car seats before, but this one is. I only used the feature once, but it was simple to use and felt secure.
  • Harness – many umbrella strollers only have a three point harness, which isn’t very safe for babies that can’t sit up well on their own yet. The Nano has a five point harness and each strap can be independently clicked into the center latch. I absolutely love the harness on this stroller and wish it was standard for all strollers.
  • Most Terrain Friendly – I’ve taken this stroller on asphalt, concrete, cobblestone, grass, dirt road, boardwalk, linoleum, and carpet. I have yet to have an issue with it. It have read reviews saying that it does and doesn’t perform well in the snow, but I haven’t tested this for myself yet.
  • Lightweight – at only 13 lbs, this stroller is super lightweight. If needed, I can throw the diaper bag on my back, carry Calvin on my hip, and pick up the unfolded stroller with one hand to carry it up a flight of stairs without much difficulty. Or I can carry the backpack and pick the whole stroller up with Calvin still in it without difficulty.

CONS

  • Two Handed Fold – you cannot fold this stroller up with one hand and this can be an issue if you are trying to fold it up while also holding your child. There is a button on each side of the handle that has to be pushed in to fold.
  • Small Storage Basket – the storage basket underneath the seat is not large. I can usually stuff a backpack of baby items in it, but it’s a tight squeeze. This isn’t usually a huge issue for us, but it may get more inconvenient the more kids we have.
  • No Parent Storage – there is not a built in area for your phone or a drink or anything else you may be carrying with you. You can purchase a stroller organizer, but this is an additional expense and item to bring with you.
  • Price – This stroller costs right around $170 new on Amazon. It is not a cheap little stroller. To compare, a simple Cosco umbrella stroller costs about $25 on Amazon.

DO I RECOMMEND IT?

If you have the extra room in your budget or if you travel often as a family, I absolutely recommend this travel stroller. If you don’t easily have the funds, you don’t often take your stroller with you, or your regular stroller fits in your car, then I would say this stroller may not be the one for you.

We keep this stroller in my car all the time. When folded, it actually fits on the floor of the backseat, between the driver’s seat and the seat Cal’s car seat base is attached to. We’ve used it window shopping, at amusement parks, around West Yellowstone, at the zoo, and anytime we need a stroller away from home.

There you have it! My review of the Mountain Buggy Nano Travel Stroller. I hope you found this review helpful, and if you have any questions or input, please comment on this post or send me an email!
