KidCo Peapod Review

I’m giving my honest review of the KidCo Peapod. What is the Peapod? Why would you consider purchasing it? Do I recommend it?

Welcome to another installment of Jaycee Reviews Kid Stuff. Today I’m going to be talking about the KidCo Peapod Kid’s Outdoor Travel Bed, what I like about it, and why I’m glad we have it.

AN OVERVIEW OF THE PEAPOD

Alright, so what is this thing and why do parents choose to invest in it?

The KidCo Peapod is a small travel tent meant for kids aged 1-3. Some of the features include:

  • Mesh siding that allows for good airflow
  • Top shade for sun protection
  • Padded mat on the bottom
  • Compact fold
  • Carrying bag
  • Full zipped enclosure

You can purchase the Peapod here.

PROS

  • Compact – the Peapod folds down to a circle that is roughly 3″ tall and just under 17″ in diameter.
  • Opened Size – once set up, this tent has plenty of room for a toddler. I expect Cal to be able to sleep in this until he’s at least 4 years old.
  • Attached Pad – this pad is just enough to cushion your child from the floor without making the pod bulky or hard to pack down.
  • Safe Enclosure – my very active little boy likes to be exactly where I need him not to be. This tent allows me to put him somewhere and know that he will stay there. He doesn’t always love it, but he’s safe.
  • Lightweight – the Peapod weighs just under 3 pounds. Very easy to pack and carry, especially if luggage weight is a concern.
  • Sleep Barrier – we purchased this for our first tent camping trip with Calvin. We needed a safe space for him to sleep in the tent with us. The Peapod gave us confidence that we wouldn’t roll over Cal and he wouldn’t roll into us.

CONS

  • Price – this outdoor kids tent is not cheap. It retails for $70 on Amazon. If you want a more affordable version, the Overcrest Portable Pop Up Tent is a good option.
  • Noise Potential – the entire tent is made of polyester and mesh, including the bottom where the child lays. The first time Calvin tried to sleep in it, he was wearing his puffy winter jacket on and the swishing noise of his jacket on the polyester when he moved was very distracting for him.
  • Age Recommendation – this travel bed is not recommend for children under the age of one. It is not certified for safe sleep in infants under age one. This can be inconvenient and we chose to use the Peapod when Calvin was 6 months old. This was a personal decision and we made it knowing the recommendations.

DO I RECOMMEND IT?

I love this product for our family. We love to spend time outdoors and be on the move. For these reasons, it works well for us. I’m still working on getting Calvin 100% comfortable napping in it on the go, but we’re getting there.

However, this is not the most affordable option on the market. If you are looking for a more budget friendly version, the Overcrest Pop Up Tent or the kilofly Pop Up both have good reviews for a lower price tag.
