How to Make Your Own Fresh Christmas Wreath!

I love the smell of real Christmas trees and fresh wreaths. We don’t have room for a real tree this year, so a fresh wreath is a must! I even made my own and I’m taking you through the process!

SUPPLIES

You’ll need to gather a few things before you get started. I also recommend either laying down a drop mat or making your wreath outside, so you don’t have to worry about pine needles all over the floor. You will also need a large work space.

  • Wreath form
  • Floral wire
  • Garden shears
  • Wire cutters
  • Conifir boughs (pine, Douglas fir, spruce, etc.)
  • Winter Greenery (silver dollar eucalyptus, lambs ear, salal, smilax, ruscus, dusty miller, seeded eucalyptius, holly, etc.)
  • Faux pinecones and red berries
  • Ribbons, bells, etc.

Once you’ve gathered all of your supplies, you are ready to start!

ASSEMBLY

First attach the end of your floral wire to the wreath form. It doesn’t matter how you do this as long as it is secure. You will not be cutting the wire until you are completely finished with the wreath.

Next, start cutting your conifer boughs into shorter pieces. These pieces should vary in length. The longer pieces you use, the fluffier your wreath will turn out to be.

Next, place a piece on the wreath form and wrap the floral wire around it and the form, securing them together. Make sure that it is angled outward. Then place another piece lower down on the form, covering the bottom of the previous piece and wind wire around it. Continue all the way around the wreath form.

Once your base layer of conifer boughs is established, continue adding other greenery by inserting it into the wire and by continuing to wind floral wire around the new pieces.

Once you are satisfied with the size and fullness of your Christmas wreath, add finishing touches like berries, pinecones, bells, and ribbon.

There you have it! Once you are completely finished adding pieces to your wreath, use the wire cutters to sever the floral wire. Wrap the loose end into the wreath securely. Hang from your door using a hook. The wreath with last longer if hung on an outside door in the cold.

If you decide to make your own holiday wreath, share it on Instagram and tag me or send me an email! I would love to see what you create!
