I have loved books and reading for as long as I can remember. My one-year-old, Calvin, has quite a few options to choose from, but he has a few distinct favorites. I’m sharing those favorites with you today!

I have decided to round up Calvin’s favorite books from his first year of life. I’m sure that he is going to discover a lot more books that he will love in his life, but these ones were definitely his favorites this year.
ROSIE GREENING’S “NEVER TOUCH A…” SERIES
These books were the first ones that Cal started showing a preference for. The first one we owned was Never Touch a Shark. He chose to read that one nine times out of ten. And he would sit through the entire thing, four or five times in a row. He received Never Touch a Polar Bear, Never Touch a Crocodile, and Would You Ever Pet a Platypus? for Christmas and loved those as well!
“GETHSEMANE, JESUS LOVES ME” BY ROGER & MELANIE HOFFMAN
This board book is a compilation of beautiful artwork of Jesus Christ paired with the lyrics to the original song, Gethsemane, by Melanie Hoffman. It is a really gorgeous book and I love to softly sing the song to him as we look at the pictures together.

“HAROLD AND THE PURPLE CRAYON” BY CROCKETT JOHNSON
This book was Colter’s favorite book all growing up and it’s still his favorite children’s book to this day. I don’t know what it is about that book, but Calvin reaches for it every time I hold him near the bookshelf. We keep it up a little higher because it’s a paper book, not a board book, but Calvin really enjoys looking through it.
“THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR” BY ERIC CARLE
Calvin may just love this book because I love to read it to him, but that is just fine by me. We have a board book copy of this classic and Calvin usually really enjoys the short story, the bright colors, watching me point to each food as I name it, and turning the pages himself.
USBORNE TOUCHY-FEELY SOUND BOOKS
We have one book from this series called Don’t Tickle the Lion! and Calvin really likes making the book make the sounds. Each animal has a touchy-feely part on their body that makes the animal sound when touched. The sensor is really easy to trigger so Calvin doesn’t have to try and find a tiny button to make the noise. My favorite feature is that the book has an off switch on the back so I don’t have to listen to the animal noises over and over again if I don’t want to.

USBORNE’S MY FIRST 100 WORDS
This is actually a set of nine teeny tine little books. Calvin loves to pull them all out of the book box and look at the pages. They are so small that they are the perfect fit for his chubby little hands. Each page has one word and one corresponding picture on it.
LOVEVERY’S BOARD BOOKS
Lovevery includes a board book with most of their age-based play kits. They are great quality, have decent representation, and Calvin really enjoys seeing pictures of other kids and babies in his books.

I hope you found some new books that you and your little ones will enjoy! I will certainly do my best to let you know what books Calvin loves as he grows as well. Happy reading!
