Rigatoni

This recipe is a huge winner at our house, especially when I’m having company I want to impress or if I am bringing a meal to a neighbor who has recently had surgery or given birth to a new baby!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 16 oz. box rigatoni noodles
  • 1 lb hamburger
  • 1 jar (32 oz) Traditional Ragu sauce
  • 2 cans (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 package sliced provolone cheese
  • 8 oz sour cream
  • 1 package shredded mozzarella
  • Dried basil
  • Dried oregano

PREPARATION

  1. Preheat oven to 350° Fahrenheit
  2. Boil noodles, undercooking slightly
  3. Brown hamburger; drain fat
  4. Cover bottom of a 9×13″ pan with about half a can of tomato sauce
  5. Add remaining tomato sauce, Ragu sauce, basil, and oregano to browned burger. Mix to combine
  6. Layer in 9×13″ pan in this order: noodles, 1/2 meat sauce mixture, provolone, sour cream, mozzarella, remaining sauce mixture
  7. Bake uncovered for 30 minutes

This meal comes together so quickly and easily and is even great to stick in the freezer to bake later!

If you do want to freeze it, I recommend letting the meat and the noodles cool completely (no steaming) and dry out just a tad before assembling and freezing to avoid excess moisture in the dish. To bake a frozen meal, allow to thaw completely, and then bake as usual for 30 minutes at 350°.
