When we found out we were expecting Baby Merrell #2, we knew we would need to upgrade from our trusty jogging stroller to a double stroller. We purchased the Mockingbird Single-to-Double stroller to be just that! This review covers the stroller in the single child capacity.

If you were to ask me the number one product advice I would offer to a first time mom, it would be this: If you plan to have another baby within three years of your first, start with a single-to-double stroller. I wish that someone had given me that advice and pounded it into my head when I was pregnant with Calvin, but alas, we had to purchase a new stroller when we found out we were expecting Baby #2 to arrive just short of Calvin’s second birthday.
We chose to go with the Mockingbird Single-to-Double stroller. Today I’m going to be giving you a review of the stroller in its single stroller configuration, which is the way we have been using it through my pregnancy, and once Baby Merrell arrives, I will give you a review of the stroller configured for a newborn and a toddler.

AN OVERVIEW OF THE MOCKINGBIRD SINGLE STROLLER
So let’s get into the technical aspects of this stroller before I start giving you my opinions and experiences with mine.
The Mockingbird Single-to-Double stroller is a full sized stroller that can be configured to be used with one or two children. PROS
- One-Handed Fold – this is actually one of the selling points that I first saw the company advertise for. You can completely fold up this stroller with one hand and that’s a huge perk when you’re juggling the stroller, diaper bag, sippy cup, lovey, and toddler all at the same time.
- Huge Storage Basket – The under seat storage for this stroller is massive and will hold up to 25 pounds of cargo. It also has a pocket built into one side that velcros closed and is large enough to hold the sun shade that comes with each rumble seat.
- Solid All Terrain Wheels – first, these wheels are big, but not filled with air, so you can’t pop them in the middle of your walk. Second, I have driven this stroller on concrete, asphalt, gravel, packed dirt, and grass and it has handled beautifully on all of those terrains. You have the option to switch between a locked and swivel position on the front wheels to give you the stability you need on rough terrain and the maneuverability on the street.
- Easy Maneuverability – this stroller handles like a dream. The wheels are sturdy and I can steer the stroller with one hand, which I couldn’t with my previous stroller. It can also make impressively sharp turns for being a full sized stroller.
- High-End Design – basically what I’m saying here is this: if you are looking for a more reasonably priced version of the UppaBaby Vista, I would recommend this stroller. It has all the important features, all the beauty and functionality, at a fraction of the cost.
- Modular Seat Options – even using this as a single stroller, there are five different options for you and your babe, depending on your needs and lifestyle. For an infant, you can use a car seat adaptor, purchase the carriage (bassinet) attachment, or use the rumble seat fully reclined, facing forward, or facing backward. And it is so easy to flip the rumble seat around if needed. I can do it on my own without removing 27 pound Calvin if I absolutely have to.
- Customizable Seat Tilt – one of my least favorite things about other strollers is how jerky the recline is. I would almost always wake Calvin up when I tried to recline him in other strollers because it feels like the back is falling out from under him. On this stroller, the entire seat tilts back on a axel and it is the smoothest transition.
- Easy Five-Point Harness – This harness is functional, secure, and I can hook or unhook the shoulder straps without unclipping the waist straps. It’s also easy to fit correctly to your child.

CONS
- Wheels Getting Caught – despite handling almost all terrain really well, this stroller really struggles if you hit a right angle (even a small one) straight on with the wheels. To go from the street to my driveway or from the crosswalk back up to the sidewalk, I almost always have to lean on the handle to pop the front wheels up and over the little lip of the concrete. It doesn’t bother me now, but it was annoying at first.
- Large Folded Size – this stroller with and its rumble seat take up the entire hatchback cargo area of my Subaru Outback Sport. It is not the biggest stroller out there, but it definitely doesn’t leave much room for other cargo. It can, however, be made to fit in most cargo spaces.
- Semi-Wobbly Seat – I have noticed that the rumble seat is not 100% stable. Basically, Calvin is able to rock it slightly on its axel if he throws his weight forward and backward. It doesn’t compromise the safety of the seat, but it can be a little annoying when he starts throwing himself around like that. It’s honestly more of a con of having a toddler than the stroller.
- Long Shipping Times – Mockingbird does almost all of their retail through their website, so I’ve noticed that the stroller is almost always at least a few weeks out for shipping. This isn’t an issue as long as you plan ahead and know that the strollers can take up to 12 weeks to ship from time of order.

DO I RECOMMEND IT?
I would absolutely recommend this stroller, especially to someone like me who puts a lot of miles on theirs and takes it on roads, sidewalks, grass, gravel, and packed dirt. I feel like this stroller gives you all of the space and perks of a stroller like the UppaBaby Vista, without the price tag. I love the configurability of the stroller, that is can be made compatible with most brands of infant car seats, and how much they thought about the parents and the child when it was designed and created.

If you can’t tell by now, I’m absolutely in love with my stroller and I wish that I had purchased this one from the very beginning of my parenting journey.
